Introduction to the BIOVASA 2025 Congress

In the face of current environmental and societal challenges, the sustainable valorisation of biomass has become a global priority. With this in mind, the UNESCO Chair in ‘Green and Sustainable Plant Chemistry’ (Avignon University), the Biotechnology Center of Borj-Cedria along with its Laboratory of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (LPAM), the TIMR Laboratory "Integrated Transformations of Renewable Matter" UTC/ESCOM, with the support of the Organic Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Sfax and The Higher Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of Borj Cedria, are organising the 2nd edition of the International Conference on the Valorisation of Biomass for Sustainable Applications BIOVASA 2025, from 7 to 8 October 2025.

BIOVASA-2025 is positioned as a hub for exchange and collaboration, bringing together scientists, researchers and industry experts from all over the world. The aim of this conference is to promote green and sustainable chemistry practices, exploring the immense potential of biomass as a renewable resource.

The BIOVASA-2025 scientific programme will address the entire biomass value chain, from cultivation to processing and recycling, with a focus on applications in the agri-food, perfume, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, chemical, fuel and energy sectors.

Participants will have the opportunity to discover the latest advances in eco-extraction through poster sessions and demonstrations using educational kits. Plenary lectures, oral presentations and posters will complete the programme, offering an overview of modern ‘green’ technologies for a more efficient valorisation of biomass.

BIOVASA-2025 is part of UNESCO's sustainable development objectives and aims to:

  • Share knowledge and experience in the field of biomass recovery.
  • Train young researchers and professionals in green and sustainable chemistry practices.
  • Disseminate research results and innovations to a wide audience

Participation in BIOVASA-2025 is free for students and researchers, thanks to the support of the UNESCO Chair and its partners. This unique event offers numerous opportunities for transnational and intercultural collaboration, thus contributing to the advancement of research and the promotion of a more sustainable future.
